Great Golf Moments in Myrtle Beach

A special moment in Myrtle Beach golf is when the city hosted the Senior PGA TOUR Championship in 1994. The 1994 Golf Magazine Seniot Tour Championship included the top 31 Senior PGA TOUR players and had up to that time the richest purse on the Senior PGA TOUR at $1.35 million.

Raymond Floyd and Jim Albus both birdied the final hole to tie at 15 under at the Dunes Club. In the sudden death playoff, the two played the club's 18th hole five times before Raymond Floyd prevailed with a birdie.

Since the Championship was played in November, nightfall was fast approaching and the closing ceremony was conducted in the dim, evening twilight of Sunday, November 13, 1994. With the arrival of the Senior PGA TOUR Championship and the ESPN telecast, it took Myrtle Beach, as a world golf destination, to its highest level. *
