Climate
Orlando average temperatures range from 59.7°F in January to 85°F in August, and July and August
average over 25 days above 90°F and it can be quite humid. The best months to visit are February - May.
Great Golf Moments
In 1987, Larry Nelson, winner of the 1983 US Open, was playing in the Walt Disney World Classic,
a PGA Tour event. Nelson, a native Georgian who had won the tournament 3 years earlier, found
himself six shots behind after 54 holes. Not expecting to come even close to winning he sent his
family back to Georgia and told them he would come home as soon as the last round was over. Nelson
played the last round with popular Tom Kite, and the pair attracted one of the largest followings
in the event's history. Nelson birdied 17 and 18, the two toughest holes on the Magnolia Course to
fire a 63 and beat Mark O'Meara and Morris Hatalsky by one shot. At the awards ceremony, event
officials had set it up so that Nelson could speak to his wife by phone over the public address
system. The normally placid Nelson shouted, "Honey, I won the tournament," triggering a roar
from the crowd.
