Ocean City.
There's so much to see and do for golfers and non-golfers alike. When you're not teeing off on our gorgeous
golf courses, you can not only swim in the ocean but shop the outlets...reel in the catch of
the day on a charter cruise...relax with a beverage or dine on fresh seafood. Have you ever
tasted fresh Maryland Blue Crab? A gourmet delight! Or just grab a beach chair and watch the
surf roll in.
Ten miles of beautiful golden beaches are perfect for winter walks or summer sunbathing.
Our charming three-mile-long boardwalk is filled with treasures and amusements. And there
are fabulous festivals and can't-miss events all year long.
Ocean City, Maryland is a convenient two and a half hour drive from Washington, DC;
Baltimore and Philadelphia. We have over 10,000 hotel rooms and suites and our courses
are open year round. If it's too cold to play where you live or the course is covered with
snow, come on down! The weather's great in summer too, generally not as hot as further
south. And in spring and fall, well, it's just perfect. So, get away today for a relaxing
stay. Sea for yourself why Ocean City is the ideal year-round golf vacation destination!
Golfing
A major beach destination for over a century,
Ocean City,
Maryland has in recent years emerged as one of the East Coast's hottest new year-round golfing destinations.
Just 2 1/2 hours by car from Washington, DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia, it's also
easy to get to Ocean City from wherever you might live. And with 24 championship
courses now in the area and mild golfing weather most of the year, golfers are flocking
to Ocean City from all over to enjoy premium golf on these excellently conditioned
courses in beautiful coastal surroundings. One course,
The Links at Lighthouse Sound,
sports the longest cart bridge in the United States -- over 1/4 mile long, it connects
the seaside and bayside holes. The Ocean City area is also home to such famous courses
as Pete and P.B. Dye's
Rum Pointe,
Rick Jacobson's
Bear Trap Dunes,
and Ault & Clark's
Nutters Crossing.
Round out your golf getaway or vacation with fabulous food and a
little sightseeing - and cap off the day with a round of another type at one of the
area's thriving clubs or pubs. If you're looking for great golf in an area with easy
access to additional entertainment for you and your golfing buddies (non-golfers and
families, too), Ocean City's the place.
Lodging - Resorts
Though outstanding new courses have only recently put Ocean City on the map as a major
golf destination, the area has been a haven for beach vacationers as far back as the
1870's. The present Atlantic House Bed & Breakfast (highly rated by Frommers) stands
on the site of the original Atlantic Hotel which was built in 1876. For a pampered stay,
you might consider this or other area bed and breakfasts. A condo at one of the famous
golf clubs in the area is a top choice for golfers, as are the high-rise hotels right
on the beach for those who want to combine golf and beach activities while on vacation.
Beach houses are also available, as are campgrounds. The Ocean City area offers a wide
range of lodging choices to fit any budget and need.
Restaurants
The food is delicious and the prices are right. From family buffets to pubs with food and games to
fine dining in cozy water-side restaurants, you'll find an array of dining options for the
golf group or family. Select from gourmet international cuisine, succulent prime rib, or
some of the best hamburgers on the planet. And if fresh-from-the-ocean seafood is a favorite,
you'll certainly have come to the right place. In fact, Ocean City is famous for our
all-you-can-eat steamed hard shell crabs! With over 22,000 restaurant seats - and that
doesn't include the numerous fast food and take-out establishments - Ocean City offers
so many dining options to tempt your taste buds that the only problem will be that there
are just not enough days in your vacation to sample them all!
Entertainment
Ocean City! Savor the experience while you're here and have a little fun off the
course, too. Nightlife is booming, from relaxing piano bars to comedy and high
energy clubs, from sports bars to gentlemen's clubs to Irish shenanigans at, well,
Shenanigan's. Dance the night away at one of our dance clubs; enjoy more golf on the
Golf Channel at a sports bar. Make an evening of it at a dinner theatre, or just
relax on the ocean-view deck of a hotel lounge or club with a cool one and recap
the excitement of the day with friends. An afternoon off the course could find you
at an amusement park where your "inner kid" can race cars and partake of similar
heart-stopping activities all afternoon. Or just roam the 20-block Boardwalk - buy
a few souvenirs, play a few games, grab an ice cream cone or beer, enjoy! This is
Ocean City. Let us entertain you!
Attractions
Many golfers enjoy playing courses where area wildlife makes an occasional
appearance. The most famous wildlife in the Ocean City area are the wild
ponies. No, they won't invade the course -- they're confined to two barrier
islands just to the south, Assateague and Chincoteague. Each summer a herd
of ponies swims from native Chincoteague to a new home on Assateague. Visitors
are welcome to watch the swim, and can view the ponies year round at the
Assateague Island National Seashore. But don't try to feed them -- it's against
the law, and they bite. For golfers who are nature lovers or with a family,
a side trip to Assateague would be most enjoyable. Baseball fans can take
in a Delmarva Shorebirds game (Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles).
Museums, including Wheels of Yesterday -- old and antique cars and related
memorabilia -- and the Fenwick Island Lighthouse will please history buffs.
And if you're visiting in winter, you won't be able to miss Ocean City's most
visible "attraction", Winterfest of Lights. This spectacular display utilizes
750,000 lights to make up hundreds of light structures befitting a seaside
resort and includes surfing Santas, animated sharks, and many more. Mid-November
through January each year. Enjoy!
Shopping
If you come to Ocean City on a three-day golf getaway, the only shopping
that might be in your plans is a visit to a golf shop to pick up more
balls or to see if you can find a better deal on a special club than you
can get back home. Check around while you're here -- you'll find some
great buys. If you have a little more time or have non-golfers with you,
Other shopping choices abound. Buy the kids a kite and you'll all have
fun flying it on the beach. In addition to specialty and boutique shops,
there's great shopping at a number of name brand factory outlets also.
And of course you'll want to take home a few souvenirs for those who
didn't get to accompany you on this golf trip. No problem -- just spend
an hour or so on our 20-block Boardwalk where you'll find more
nteresting (and sometimes useful!) things to take home than you ever
dreamed of, and you'll even have an enjoyable time while you're at it.
Golf Communities
If you want to play golf year round but don't want to move to or travel
too far south, Ocean City may be just the place for you -- we're just
two and a half hours from Washington, DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia,
and not much further from New York City. Spend your time on the course,
not traveling! From vibrant communities with bordering premium courses
to luxury homes and rental condos on the beach, there's a "home" for
you in Ocean City. We have many properties available, for both year-round
living and vacationing, in all price ranges, as well as lots for building
your own new home. Our realtors will be more than happy to provide you
with whatever information you need. Drop in to see one of them when
you're in Ocean City, or give them a call.
